SEARCH ENGINE VISITORS SPEAK OUT WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE WANT

A new study profiles visitors to the top-20 search engines and is designed to give search engine marketers and developers the information they need to create the next generation search engine.

Mountain View, CA

A new study by MarketProfiles.net will allow top search engine marketers and developers to contrast their visitors' demographics, Internet usage habits, and ratings versus those of the other top search engines. "Our study provides a low-cost way to understand visitors to the top-20 search engines and it provides valuable competitive insights to other general, regional, and topical search engine executives," according to MarketProfiles.net owner, Gene Hall.

Search engine visitors respond in their own words to questions about . . .

- What they are looking for when deciding to use a search engine, "I am looking for an effective way to search the Internet; a search engine geared more towards information rather than sales" and

- What features they would like that are not currently included in any search engine that they know of, "Language translations; warnings that accessing certain sites might result in flooding; a place where I can save a page of URLs to view later."

According to these respondents, Yahoo is the search engine that they visit most frequently (22%) followed by Google (12%), AOL Search (9%), MSN Search (9%), and Ask Jeeves (9%). Top 2-box overall ratings (on a five-point scale) favored Google (97% and Ask Jeeves (91%) followed by Yahoo (86%), MSN Search 69%, and AOL Search (64%).

Breakdowns of visitors to each of the top 20 search engines are available including . . .

- Recent visitors (have visited in past 30 days)

- Loyal visitors (have visited in the past and plan to visit again in the next 30 days)

- Potential visitors (have never visited but plan to visit in the future)

- Aware non-visitors (those aware of the search engine but have never visited)
